Ok so first thing, Blizzard Entertainment really kick-ass! It’s commonly known for World of Warcraft, the world’s most subscribed MMORPG with 12 million subscribers. Released in 2004 and still #1. For instance, the new expansion Cataclysm sells over 4.7 million copies in just one month!

Rock’n & Roll Racing and The Lost Vikings serie ? Awesome.

Warcraft serie ? Awesome !

Diablo serie ? Awesome !!

Starcraft serie ? Awesome !!!

Starcraft’s multiplayer has been very popular in South Korea. The 1st eSports stars have appeared with Starcraft. Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty was released this year and it seems like it’s going to be even bigger than the first one. For PC Gamer, if e-sports succeed in the West, it’ll be thanks to Starcraft 2 popularity (read this article on PC Gamer on how Starcaft 2 is an « e-sports enabler »).

A few weeks ago I watched a Starcraft 2 commented pro game and even if I didn’t know the game mechanics I watched it entirely, because the comments were so interesting! That’s how I discovered the – Starcraft 2 – shoutcast scene.

The most famous Starcraft 2 caster is Sean « Day[9] » Plott, a professional gamer on Starcraft: Brood War and Starcraft 2. His ‘dailies’ are a 1-hour deep analysis of the commented game. On Monday, he’s doing a special session call « Funday Monday« . For each Funday Monday session, Day[9] give objectives to his viewers, like a « Carrier rushes » for Protoss or a game with no marines, no marauders and no tanks for Terran!! Then he casts the replays during the Funday Monday. DAMN, THIS IS SO HILARIOUS!!  Day[9], with his analytical style, is really the man! Those casts are the most pedagogical cast on Starcraft 2 you will ever find! (read here for an interview of Day[9] by PC Gamer)

Click here for the Day[9] Daily #233 – TheLittleOne vs White-RA. This is the best game I’ve ever seen and to quote Day[9] himself:

And here the Day[9] Daily #227 – Funday Monday – Battle Cruisers! (or « Cattle Bruisers »):

You can find Day[9] casts at:

  1. Day9tv on blip.tv http://day9tv.blip.tv
  2. YouTube Channel www.youtube.com/day9tv
  3. Stream http://www.ustream.tv/channel/day9tv
  4. Twitter www.twitter.com/day9tv

An other great US Starcraft 2 caster is HuskyStarcraft. Really interesting, contrary to Day[9], HuskyStarcraft spent less time on analysis and really concentrates on the commentary. He also did a really fun parody of Justin Bieber’s song « Baby », named « Banelings ».

In France, at the present time the most famous Starcraft 2 casters are Pomf et Thud, I didn’t find any worthwile french casters except them. Unfortunately they upload videos less often than Day[9] and HuskyStarcraft.
